A MAN charged with grievous bodily harm in relation to an alleged assault on Monday afternoon was remanded in custody in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Garry Steven Ennor, 32, was not required to plead to the charge which may be upgraded.
His alleged victim, a 29-year-old man of no fixed address, is in an induced coma on life support in Royal Perth Hospital following the incident.
Counsel for Mr Ennor made a bail application for her client, but this was refused by Magistrate Vivien Edwards who cited previous breaches of bail as cause for concern.
Mr Ennor, who lives in Ravenswood, was taken to hospital following the alleged assault which his lawyer said was provoked by the victim.
Mr Ennor received treatment to a wound to his head which required stitches.
The alleged victim sustained a fractured skull and has bleeding on the brain after being allegedly hit with an iron bar.
The prosecution referred to the alleged assault as serious and said it was unsure if the victim would survive.
Mr Ennor and the victim were described as acquaintances.
In denying bail Magistrate Edwards said Mr Ennor had demonstrated difficulty in complying with previous orders.
He will face court again on July 1.
Mandurah Detectives are appealing for anyone in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
