More than 3,000 people traveled to Donnybrook last weekend to take part in the inaugural True Grit obstacle race.
The event was held on the paddocks surrounding Smallwater Estate Vineyard in Newlands – just south of Donnybrook.
Clusters of racers were sent onto the track in five-minute intervals heralded by massive blasts from four gas-powered flame-throwers.
Competitors faced ice-cold water; lots of mud; steep slopes and lung-busting hill climbs. The event was held over two days.
For most it was a chance to have fun and test themselves against a range of gruelling military-inspired obstacles.
A spokesperson for the race said that this was the sixth True Grit race held in Australia, and the first in Western Australia.
He said they were very happy with how the Donnybrook race went and would definitely be keen to return.
