A RECENT trip to the cinema to see the new Spider-Man movie has made me think about what special powers I’d like to have.
What I’d really like to be able to do is teleport.
I think it would make my hour-long commute to and from work really simple.
I’d get to have a sleep-in every morning and travelling overseas would be a lot cheaper.
I’m facing a series of long flights to Europe in a few weeks and being able to skip the queues, crying babies and mind-numbing boredom (not to mention my fear of flying) would be amazing.
Thirteen-hour flight? No problem.
Just teleport and be there, ready to eat a croissant, in a matter of nanoseconds.
I’ve asked around the office and inadvertently started a heated discussion about what powers would be the best.
The ability to read people’s minds was hotly debated – it would be great if you’re not a fan of surprises but would you go insane from having everyone else’s voices in your head?
Travelling through time was mentioned but it comes with a lot of issues.
What if you travelled back in time and accidentally erased your own future?
Or what if you went forward and saw something terrible that you had no way of preventing?
Being able to cure people would be a good power and I can’t see any downside other than if you use your skills for evil or monetary gain.
But the power that’s trumped them all would be the ability to make wishes come true.
Wish the weather was warmer? Done.
Wish you could spend more time with your loved ones? Easy.
Being able to wish for anything you want trumps all of the super powers I’ve mentioned.
Would you go mad with power?
Maybe.
But this is all just wishful thinking.
