YOU may know her dad, Kevin Bloody Wilson, but did you know daughter Jenny Talia is living proof there must be a humour gene?
Singing in her father’s footsteps, Talia brings the same rowdy sense of humour but puts her own spin on it.
Talia’s latest album, Focus feature the hit song 50 Shades – the singer’s first ever love song, even if it is about a stalker.
Today it’s the most successful album she done and she’s coming home to showcase it, now more proud of her Australian heritage than ever.
“I’ve been based in Chicago for 15 years and I still have my accent,” she said.
“Partly because I chose to, but also because it’s fun.
“And I love still using the lingo.”
Talia still spends half her time in Australia, particularly in Perth, as she grew up in Western Australia.
A country singer originally, Talia found she had more of a response from singing he dad’s songs than when she was on stage.
While most of her songs are spoken rather than sang, Talia still keeps her country-style twang to her voice.
“I was a country singer in Nashville and people would ask me to play some Australian songs,” she said.
“I didn’t really know any Australian songs, but I did know some Kevin Bloody Wilson.
“So I would sing some of those but change the words so it was from a female point of view.”
From there she started writing her own material and brought out an album with her new found comedic style.
Her first album under her stage name, Tunnel Vision out sold her previous three albums as a country singer within three months.
A decade on from the big move from country to comedy music, she’s at the Ravenswood Hotel to not only perform but to celebrate her birthday on March 29.
