FOOTAGE of an interview recorded by Peel detectives played in the District Court today showed one of the teenagers accused of murdering Mandurah man Tauri Litchfield saying he suggested calling an ambulance on the night of Mr Litchfield's death.
Five teenagers are now on trial for Mr Litchfield's murder after one had his charge dropped yesterday.
Each accused has pleaded not guilty.
The video played this morning showed one of the boys, who cannot be named for legal reasons, answering questions put to him by Peel Crime Unit detective sergeant Ryan Murphy.
The interview was recorded one week after Mr Litchfield's death, following an early morning search of the accused's Warnbro home.
Arrested with another boy on suspicion of murder, the accused was shown denying he was covering up for his friends.
He told det-sgt Murphy the group of youths "took off" after Mr Litchfield tripped on a wall and fell backwards, smashing his head on the concrete.
The boy said no one checked on Mr Litchfield.
He said he thought about calling an ambulance and that he was a "little bit" worried about the victim.
"I thought he was dead," the boy said during the interview.
When questioned further by det-sgt Murphy the boy said he suggested calling an ambulance and asked the other boys in the group if they thought Mr Litchfield was alright.
"I don't know why I didn't call an ambulance," he said.
"I never said anything after that."
The trial continues.
