Still desperate to uncover the wherabouts of her daughter, mother Margaret is clinging to the hope that her 14-year ordeal will soon be over.
“It’s been absolutely shocking,” Mrs Dodd said.
“It feels like day one again.
“We’re all just waiting.
“And we’re all suffering.”
Police launched Operation Bluegum last week in response to fresh information surrounding the disappearance of Hayley in 1999.
Then 17, Hayley went missing near Badgingarra on July 29.
The Mandurah girl was last seen walking along North West Road.
Despite repeated attempts by police and the Dodd family – including the offer of a $250,000 reward to uncover the mystery - the case has run cold until last week.
New information led police to a property which was owned by convicted rapist Francis John Wark at the time of Hayley’s disappearance.
A shocked Mrs Dodd said she had no idea of the connection between the property and Mr Wark.
“Quite honestly I don’t know what to think,” she said.
“I just don’t know what to say.
“I really, really do not know.”
Currently serving time in a Queensland prison for the violent rape and kidnapping of a hitchhiker, Mr Wark has re-emerged as a person of interest in the Dodd case.
And while police will not comment on specifics relating to their fresh investigation it is believed they have significant new information prompting them to bring specialised ground-penetrating radar in to search the property.
“I really feel like something’s going to happen this time,” Mrs Dodd said.
“I don’t know how I’ll handle it if they find her.
“I’m a bit jumpy, to be honest.”
Laying wreaths at Hayley’s memorial plaque on the foreshore for what should have been her 32nd birthday on the weekend, Mrs Dodd said despite years of heartache she was still hopeful of finding answers.
“Every birthday and anniversary I think we’ll find her,” she said.
“I think that all the time.
“Fourteen years is a long time to wait.”
