THE State Basketball League has hit finals mode with the men’s Mandurah Magic team going head-to-head against the East Perth Eagles for the preliminary round.

Ending the season on a disappointing note, the Magic finished on equal points to the Eagles despite lacking in the percentage department finalising their position as fifth after a six-point beating on Saturday to the Goldfields Giants.
Fans packed the Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium for the last match of the season but it was the Giants who walked away with their heads held high 98-92.
Defensive pressure was applied equally on the court in the fist quarter but the Goldfields came up trumps, shooting 26 to Mandurah’s 23.
An intense second term displayed ferocity on the court as both teams scored 27 points while the Giants were first to the rebounds ,the Magic continued to keep up with 10 of their 12 free-throws connecting.
After resting for the half-time break, both teams were on fire returning 16 points each in the third with the Giants still leading by three points despite Mandurah grabbing 14 rebounds. However, Goldfields manage to sprint away in the last quarter with 29 points compared to Mandurah’s 26 after failing to capitalise on eight shots for three-pointers.
Magic main man Thomas Remmerswaal dominated the court and was the highest scorer shooting 35 points.
Taylor Mullenax also sunk through the basket with his own 24 points and 12 rebounds in the game.
Goldfield’s Michael Haney racked up 28 points and 14 rebounds while Ty Harrelson, sunk three of his three-pointers and scored 21 points for the game.
