A holidaying man who allegedly convinced several Hobart residents to invest $215,000 in a non-existent oil company has been extradited from NSW to Tasmania on fraud offences.
Police say the 41-year-old is a serial fraudster with a record of similar offending in several states.
He has been charged with 10 counts of fraud relating to the alleged conduct in March 2021.
"He was holidaying in Tasmania and claiming to being an investment banker," Tasmania Police said in a statement.
"It is alleged he convinced several Hobart locals to invest $215,000 in a non-existent Texas Oil Company."
Police allege victims transferred money into the man's personal account and he used the funds to "enhance his facade as a stockbroker".
The man, who was extradited from Penrith in NSW, is expected to appear before Hobart Magistrates Court on Friday.
