The Coolup community has joined together to bring the Christmas spirit to town by filling their main street with Christmas decorations - the theme? Aussie Christmas.
Coolup resident Tracy Bennett said the idea was formed by a group of locals who wanted to bring joy to the community.
"At the start of October a small group of mums, dads and kids all got together and came up with some ideas to decorate the main street in Coolup which goes past the Enzo Menaro Memorial Park," Ms Bennett said.
The park honours the late Enzo Menara, who was an avid farmer, father and owner of the butcher shop in Pinjarra as well as a long-serving member of several community groups.
"The Coolup Christmas Fairies are sponsored by The Coolup Progress and Coolup Volunteer Bushfire Brigade and our events and decorations are made possibly through our fundraising throughout the year.
"We threw around heaps of ideas but the biggest was the theme - Aussie Christmas. So evolved the white boomers and dodgy Holden Ute."
The group got to work setting up clotheslines for Santa, with his washing displayed proudly.
"The community have been asked to hang anything they would like on the line.
"Santa has a sunsafe hat with honky nuts to keep the flies at bay.
"We have large lollipops, candy canes, southern cross stars and many other decorations."
Not only were the decorations extravagant, they were locally sourced.
"Most of the wood we used was recycled from Mitre 10 in Pinjarra while everything else was donated or recycled with the odd small purchase."
On Saturday, December 4 the Coolup Progress and fire brigade will be hosting a family community christmas party where Santa will make a visit on a fire truck with gifts.
Meanda Park Miniature Animal Farm will be bringing animals along for petting and there will be face painting, raffles, a climbing wall, an obstacle course, a slippery slide and an ice cream van.
"Families bring their picnics and set up under the beautiful eucalyptus trees.
"We have an area planted with an Italian Pine and two Rottnest pines," Ms Bennett said.
"The reasons behind these particular trees is that Enzo was a huge part of the community and held the Progress together.
"He was Santa Claus for too many years to count hence the WA native trees.
"We are looking forward to seeing our community come together and celebrate our town and Christmas."
