The City of Rockingham's new Council has officially been sworn in, with the City to be led for the next four years by its first ever female Mayor.
Following the vote count on Saturday 16 October, Deb Hamblin was elected as Mayor of the City of Rockingham. The 2021 Local Government Elections were a significant event for the City, with the community having the opportunity to directly elect the Mayor for the first time.
In addition to the election of the Mayor, six councillor positions across the City's three wards were also filled at the election.
Cr Brett Wormall was elected to represent Baldivis Ward, while Cr Robert Schmidt was chosen by electors to represent Comet Bay Ward. Both will serve four year terms.
Caroline Hume, Dawn Jecks, Leigh Liley and Mark Jones were elected to represent Rockingham Safety Bay Ward. Crs Hume, Jecks and Liley will serve four year terms, while Cr Jones will serve a two year term (due to the extraordinary vacancy created by the resignation of Cr Joy Stewart to coincide with this election).
Following the elections the full breakdown of Council representation across the City is now as follows:
- Mayor - Deb Hamblin
- Baldivis Ward - Cr Sally Davies, Cr Hayley Edwards and Cr Brett Wormall.
- Comet Bay Ward - Cr Lorna Buchan and Cr Robert Schmidt.
- Rockingham Safety Bay Ward - Cr Craig Buchanan, Cr Rae Cottam, Cr Caroline Hume, Cr Dawn Jecks, Cr Mark Jones and Cr Leigh Liley.
Council will next meet on Tuesday 26 October 2021 to elect a Deputy Mayor and also fill vacancies across the City's various committees.
