Beloved Mandurah boxer Alex Winwood has gotten a special tattoo of the Olympic rings, which will serve as a nod to his 2021 Olympic debut in Tokyo.
While Winwood missed out on the gold, he won the hearts of viewers around the world when he performed a traditional Indigenous dance during the opening ceremony.
A proud Ngoongar man, Winwood told the Mail in July as he prepared to fly out, that he would be representing the people of Australia and his Ngoongar people.
Training under Brian Sartori at Eureka Boxing Club in Silver Sands, Winwood only just missed out on qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympics as a teenager.
His 2021 Olympic efforts have suggested this won't be the last time we see him representing Australia there.
Winwood debuted his tattoo on Instagram, writing that he had "finally got it done."
"I wasn't going to do it but someone dear to me passed away before I could see them after getting home from the games," he wrote.
"This tattoo isn't for me, it's for everyone who helped me from my first fight all the way to putting on the Olympic jersey."
Winwood also thanked his tattoo artist Jackson May, writing that he did an "unreal job".
