With generous funding from PEACH (People Employed at Alcoa Charity Help), the Mandurah Men's Shed has purchased a new CNC router machine.
After a steep learning curve, members have the machine up and running.
Initially the CNC machine is being used to cut out the "give-away'' toys for which Mandurah Men's Shed is so well known.
This method is much safer than hand cutting with a much more accurate finish.
Wheels are added by hand to finish the products.
In the near future, the CNC will be used to cut out much more complex components for larger toys and furniture, enabling the assembly to be completed by the less skilled members.
PEACH is a trust fund founded in 1979 by Alcoa employees and continues today, helping local community groups to flourish. The PEACH philosophy is that no organisation is too big or too small to receive funding.
Mandurah Men's Shed have recently acquired a display trailer which is taken to local events to show their wares and connect with the community.
Look for the trailer at the forthcoming Wellness Festival, monthly at Mandjar Markets throughout summer and at the Christmas Pageant.
Prospective new members, particularly should they have CNC experience, are very welcome to call Kevin on 0411 330 421 or Alan on 0411 036 922.
Currently the Shed is open Tuesday to Friday from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
