Vaccination rates
Watching Channel 7 News on Sunday and the Mayor of Liverpool NSW came on and mentioned about the disturbance on Saturday, but what got me is the fact her city has a vaccination rate of 90 per cent, and in all of NSW they gave out 50,000 vaccinations yesterday, yet we have 2.6 million people in WA and cannot get this done. Are we just slow or think we are okay? My wife and I have had both injections of Astrazenica. If COVID-19 does, and I think it will, come into WA we will not be ready and the health system will be overrun. WA should all have had at least one jab by September and all done by November. It would be interesting to see how many people in the city of Mandurah have been vaccinated or at least had the first dose as this may get more people rolling. Also our mayor needs to get out there and promote the vaccination; have not heard much from him.

Reignite Democracy
Thank you, Mandurah Mail, for giving us information about the beginning of a Mandurah branch of Reignite Democracy Australia (News, 19/8/21). To my knowledge, this is the first time that any part of the mainstream media (in WA, at least) has directed us toward any organisation working to restore our freedoms during this pandemic. Thank you for telling us about the group honestly, without treating it as public enemy number one. Publishing this article was a courageous decision. You have shown true journalism in doing so.

Rates expenditure
I have just paid the 21/22 rates and just thought I would look at where our rates are currently used and noticed the biggest expenditure $42m (50 per cent of rates) was maintaining our $1.3 billion of assets which I understand all the reasons and benefits. Youth development $1.18m (1.4 per cent) and senior services $0.73m (0.86%) are other allocations. I just can't help but think we have some serious problems in Mandurah. Could we not allocate some of the monies from maintenance on a temporary basis to get on top of drug problems, homeless shelters, crime against our elder citizens? I know there is always the finger pointing from local government to state government on whose responsibility it is, but couldn't we try and help ourselves instead of always shifting blame and show them how it's done instead of sticking our heads in the sand and blaming others?

Australian unity
On Saturday, Aussie police sprayed a 12-year-old Aussie boy in the eyes with pepper spray. His crime? Holding a sign that said "I want to play." It is time that all Australians hung their heads in shame and started being humane again.
