Voters in the Brisbane-based electorate of Stretton will head to the polls next month following the death of popular state Labor MP Duncan Pegg.
The by-election will be held on July 24, the Electoral Commission of Queensland announced on Tuesday.
Nominations are now open and will close at noon on July 7.
Mr Pegg died from cancer earlier this month, just shy of his 41st birthday, following an 18-month battle.
He was first elected in January 2015 and was remembered in parliament as a gentleman of politics with friends on both sides, and a true champion for his community who even learned Mandarin to better communicate with constituents.
Mr Pegg's long-time staffer James Martin was announced as the party's candidate before the MP died.
The Liberal National Party has nominated former Queenslander of the Year and police officer Jim Bellos.
