Frederick Irwin Anglican School has announced that its 2021 school production will be Matilda! the musical.
Written by WA's own Tim Minchin, Matilda! the musical is based on the beloved Roald Dahl classic about "an extraordinarily clever young girl who dares to take a stand and change her destiny with the help of her kind-hearted teacher, Miss Honey".
Head of performing arts Jenny Crutchett will be directing the show, and said a musical production provided opportunities for students with a range of different talents.
"The backstage roles such as set design and creation, costuming, makeup and sound are just as important as the onstage singing, dancing and acting roles or being a member of our live band," Ms Crutchett said.
"I love seeing the students and staff work together to create a production that truly is a team effort."
Frederick Irwin principal Kerry Robertson said it was important for parents to have the opportunity to experience the wonder of their children taking part in a full school performance.
"This show is such a beautiful story, and it is wonderful watching this show come to life thanks to the talented performers and backstage crew and brilliant direction of the staff," she said.
Matilda will run from Friday August 13, for five shows, including one matinee on Saturday August 21.
Limited seats are available through the Frederick Irwin website.
