My wife and I live in Dawesville and unfortunately whenever either of us has to go into Mandurah we run the gauntlet of vehicles waiting until the last moment to pull out in front of us and then dawdle along slowly as if the driver did not have a care in the world.
At times we sincerely wonder if we will make it to our destination without being injured or killed on the way.
The times we've had to brake suddenly to avoid an accident is unbelievable.
I have also witnessed drivers pulling into car bays at various shopping centres, park their vehicle and then take at least a further 10 minutes to get out of their vehicle, retrieve their Zimmer frame and struggle into the shops. These people could not stop in an emergency if their lives depended on it.
While neither my wife or I think we are the perfect drivers, it is patently obvious that a minority of those who currently hold a driver's licence, should not do so.

Supporting groups that care
Until we moved to Mandurah 30 years ago, I had never written to a newspaper. Then I started writing to support the late Len Howard and his great group who were fighting the development of the Creery Wetlands and those beautiful islands for the bird life. So the fight for our estuary waters has been ongoing for a long time and no doubt will continue long into the future.
I would like to thank and pay a huge tribute to our Mandurah Mail who have contributed in a huge way in supporting the different groups who care for Mandurah and its beautiful waterways.

System is dysfunctional
RE: Dawesville couple forced to sell retirement dream (see page 2)
Unfortunately there is no effective deterrent for people like this to not stay in the industry and to do it all again - usually under a different company name, The current system for complaints is biased and totally dysfunctional right throughout. All at the full expense of the consumer.

Finish Karnup station
RE: Images of Lakelands train station unveiled (see page 14)
What about the people who living in Singleton, Secret Harbour area who have been waiting for Karnup Station (on which work commenced before Auburn Grove) to open? Plus, the Mandurah station looks like an afterthought and passengers still get wet in winter walking to catch the train.
