Mandurah Country Club was turned into a sea of pink on April 18, when 128 golfers donned their prettiest pink attire for the nine-hole Ambrose competition for the Zonta Club of Peel's Golf Day.
Wonderful weather saw the largest number of players since the event returned to the Mandurah Country Club in 2015.
Started there in 1994 by Bev Jackson, the event moved to the Pinjarra Golf Club for the next 20 years, before returning to the MCC.
In teams of six, the largest number attending at Pinjarra was 220 in 2008, when the highest amount of over $15,000 was raised. Now in teams of four, the day raised an amazing $20,000.
Over the 28 years The Zonta Club of Peel has raised a total of more than $290,000 for breast cancer research.
The day began with a hearty breakfast of bacon burgers and bubbly, and a putting competition.
After the game there was lots happening; first a lunch, then a silent auction of 80 items, a main auction of 13 items, wine wheel raffles, and then the presentation of prizes.
Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Western Australia (UWA), Wendy Erber spoke on the progress made over the 27 years that Zonta has been a donor and especially over the past few years with many breaks-through in the research of breast cancer.
Another researcher at QE2, Dr Zhaoyu Li who recently came to WA from the United States, spoke of his work into finding ways of preventing breast cancer.
The entire amount raised on the day will go direct to breast cancer research at QE2 medical centre.
As has happened each year, a team headed by Professor Wendy Erber came from QE2 to play on the day.
The Zonta Club of Peel said a huge thanks to Bev Jackson for her continuing effort over the 28 years, who with her team of helpers made this another successful day.
The Club also gave their thanks to the Mandurah Country Club for its amazing support and to the Zonta members who made this highly successful annual event happen.
