South Mandurah Football Club (SMFC) veteran Solomon Daw has strapped up his football boots many times over the past 23 years - in fact, as of Saturday, April 17, Daw has played 400 games for the club.
Daw's 400th match was a thrilling spectacle against the Dwellingup Razorbacks, where the second division teams fought hard.
Not only did Daw make the top 10 goal kickers in his division, South Mandurah dominated Dwellingup, defeating them by a staggering 211 points.
When asked if this game felt like any other game, Daw laughed, and said, "it felt a little more exciting than a normal game, I guess."
"My mum, sister and in-laws were all at the game - and so were my wife and kids, my family is always there supporting me."
Daw's career with SMFC began in 1998, and over this time he has played in multiple divisions including league.
"A footy highlight for me was winning the league premiership in 2006, definitely," Daw said.
"A lot of guys playing this season have played a lot of football - there are three guys who have been there with me since '98. We've either played together or against each other, and we're all mates outside of it."
Daw has seen many players come and go throughout his years at the club, and he said that this year's sides have gelled really well together.
"I've always been pretty tight with new guys who come into the club, a lot of my closest friends I have met that way."
Daw's career transformed when he signed on as the coach for the South Mandurah Football Club women's team, a role he has now been in for four years.
"I'm so proud of my women's team - that is where a lot of my focus is these days. I love seeing them succeed," he said.
"Coaching the team to the premiership last year and seeing them win is easily one of the biggest highlights of my career."
Daw is also looking forward to taking this season's coaching duties to the field.
"The women's division starts this weekend - it's the first time we have had an ANZAC day fixture, so it will be a really special game."
Daw told the Mail that he believes "South Mandurah will fare well this season", with cohesive players, solid coaches and experience on their side.
