The Peel golf industry was in the spotlight last week at the 2021 WA Golf Industry Awards with two winners from the area.
Matthew Heath from the Pinjarra Golf Club won the prestigious Hilary Lawler PGA Club Professional of the Year Award through his hard work engaging with Pinjarra members.
"It's an honour to win the award, especially in a year that was unlike any other. It makes the long days driving from Hillarys to Pinjarra every day worth it," Heath said about what winning the award meant to him.
This award comes at a time where Matthew will soon embark on a new journey as the head Teaching professional at the Cottesloe Golf Club.
"The five years I spent at Pinjarra were amazing and the club were very supportive of my ideas and initiatives that I wanted to try," Matthew said.
"The hits and misses have helped develop my understanding of golf clubs and members which I am excited to take to my next club," he continued, speaking on his time at the Pinjarra Golf Club and what he is looking forward to as he moves on in his career.
Meanwhile, it was Neil Graham, who rose above the pack to win the Superintendent of the Year award for his work in creating a course at Mandurah that rivals any other across the state.
Graham, a long term superintendent at many golf clubs before landing at Mandurah spoke of the pride he had in the course, when receiving the award on the night.
The awards night was a huge success with slightly under 500 people in attendance at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
"It was great to be among peers and hear about their 2020. Everyone you spoke to was busier than ever. Golf in WA is a great place to be right now," Matthew finished as he reflected on his own night.
