Noise levels are a potential concern for staff at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre's indoor pool, according to recent acoustic tests.
The acoustics at the Leisure Pool have shown noise levels ranging between 76 to 82 dB(A), with 80 dB(A) being the average level.
These results were for the operational noise levels measured at multiple points around the pool hall and include a combination of patron and operational related sounds such as filters and water movement.
The noise levels raise a potential occupational health and safety issue for staff spending extended periods of time in the facility, such as lifeguards and swim teachers.
It can also make it difficult to conduct swimming lessons and may potentially impact the enjoyment of the centre by the community.
In the January 2021 financial report, City officers requested a new capital project budget of $72,587 to enable the detailed design aspect to be undertaken this financial year, which was carried unanimously at the February 23 Ordinary Council meeting.
The additional funds will come from money put aside for pool covers which Council has decided not to implement after further research into their pros and cons.
