With a return to significant rises in tidal inundation events and intensity, mosquito management in the Peel region has ramped up.
Billions of mosquito larvae are being targeted through aerial treatments with three being undertaken in less than a month.
According to a City of Mandurah spokesperson, aerial treatments were undertaken on December 16 and 17, covering 478ha, which was the biggest treatment so far this season.
Another small treatment was carried out on December 30 with another carried out on January 4 and 5, which resulted in another 350ha being treated.

These treatments have been effective despite some challenging and unfavourable weather conditions in the lead up to and during the Christmas and New Year period.
However, Mandurah residents have still been reporting the pesky insects in suburbs such as Mariners Cove, Meadow Springs, Coodanup, Lakelands, and Erskine.
One resident wrote, "In 20 something years of living in Mandurah we have never had a mosquito plague the same as we what are experiencing right now".
With the 2019/20 season recording slightly higher numbers of reported cases of Ross River virus and Barmah Forest virus make sure to protect yourself and family from mosquitoes.
The best ways to protect yourself is to stay indoors during peaks in mosquito activity, cover up with light coloured and loose fitting clothing, apply mosquito repellents that contain DEET or picaridin, and avoid areas that have dense vegetation.
