WA Liberals leader Zak Kirkup will commit $167 million to a Peel Health Campus upgrade should he be elected in March.
The Mandurah-based hospital continues to shape as a key battleground for the upcoming state election, with Mr Kirkup's promise following a $152 million pledge from Labor a fortnight prior.
Essentially Mr Kirkup's commitment encompasses that of Labor's, while adding a further $15 million to construct a cardiothoracic theatre at the facility.
"What this means it that it realises the Liberal party's ongoing commitment to Peel Health Campus," he said.
"We've been fighting to get improvements here for years."
Labor also pledged to return the Campus to being a state-run public hospital once the current contract with Ramsay Health Care expires, but the Liberals stopped short of promising to end the privitisation.
"As I've said - I don't care who operates the hospital at all," Mr Kirkup said.
"The most important thing is to get the immediate investment into the hospital.
"We want to see Peel Health Campus invested and expanded.
On top of the cardiothoracic theatre the proposed upgrades would include 153 new public inpatient beds comprising 33 beds returned to the state from the current private ward of Peel Health Campus, 90 new public inpatient beds, a 30-bed inpatient mental health unit, and four additional operating theatres.
They will also comprise of two additional procedure rooms, an emergency department expansion including a mental health observation area and a Curtin University training school.
Mr Kirkup said the commitment was the culmination of a five-year push for more funding to the hospital.
"We have been fighting for years to fix Peel Health Campus so that residents in the region have access to the level of health care they deserve," he said.
"As the member for Dawesville and a resident in Mandurah, I know just how important it is that our local hospital gets upgraded for a safer, smarter today and a brighter, better tomorrow.
"Peel Health Campus is the major healthcare provider for the Peel region which is one of the fastest growing communities in Australia.
"Upgrading the facility will also create more local jobs, contributing to our plan to create 200,000 new jobs over the next five years."
Mr Kirkup has pledged to start work on the upgrades by 2021, two years earlier than that of the Labor party's commitment.
