Halls Head Primary School didn't let COVID isolation get them down, creating theatrical pieces exploring their experiences which earned them a state champion title at the 2020 YohFest festival.
More than 40 students worked together to create original dramatic and dance pieces, sharing the coping strategies they used to stay mentally and physically well despite social distancing.
Two young performers, Kendra Cooper and Ella-Grace Wood, were crowned the top WA Primary act for Best Overall Health Message out of a record number of entries.
Performing Arts teacher Siân Wake said it was inspiring to see how the students were able to draw positives from their isolation and share their tips with others:
"It is astounding how resilient and observant young people can be," Mrs Wake said.
"The students' YohFest entries actually educated me. They shared some truly helpful coping strategies we could all use."
The school was also awarded numerous commendations including: Effective Choreography, Charismatic Performance, Solid Characterisation From a Large Cast, A Comprehensive Summation of Coping Strategies For Well-Being In Isolation, A Vivacious Entertaining Narrative, A Vigorous & Enthusiastic Performance and Audience Appeal.
