Pinjarra Police are warning residents on rural properties to be vigilant following a spate of shed burglaries over recent weeks.
Four reports of chainsaws being stolen from sheds have been made to police in the past fortnight, spanning an area from North Dandalup to Meelon.
Pinjarra Police Acting Officer in Charge Sergeant Neville Palmer said the motive behind the chainsaw thefts was uncertain, and urged shed owners to take necessary precautions.
"As to why chainsaws are being specifically targeted we're still trying to figure out," he said.
"But it's important the community remain vigilant. Lock up your sheds, report any suspicious behaviour and more specifically be sure to record the serial numbers on your chainsaws."
Anyone who has noticed suspicious behaviour can make a report by calling 131 444.
Alternatively people can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
