From the season of huge announcements to come out of Victoria, another huge announcement out of Victoria on Saturday.
Victoria's health minister Jenny Mikakos resigned from her position amid the fallout from the state's COVID-19 hotel quarantine scheme.
Following premiere Daniel Andrews submission to the inquiry on Friday, which partially pointed the finger at the health minister, Ms Mikakos said she was disappointed her integrity had been undermined.
"As I said to the board of inquiry, I take responsibility for my department, the buck stops with me," Ms Mikakos said.
Mr Andrews went on to announce on Saturday he'd chosen mental health minister Martin Foley to replace Ms Mikakos after receiving her text message resignation from the state's health portfolio.
"She's a very, very hard working person and I'm grateful to her for her efforts ... I wish her well for the future," Mr Andrews said.
The shock resignation came amid a day of overall decline in Victoria's coronavirus case numbers, with just 12 new cases, five linked to known outbreaks and seven under investigation.
The situation was even more optimistic across the border, with NSW recording no locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the latest reporting period, after a mystery case on Friday ended the state's three-day streak of no community transmission.
It came as many in the state hit the road for the start of the school holidays, with snow and blistering winds reminding visitors around the Central and Southern Tablelands, including at Orange, Oberon and the Barrington Tops, and higher parts of the ACT, that it wasn't smooth sailing into summer just yet.
