Mandurah residents won't be able to dump their general waste at the city's rubbish tip until further notice, after vandals caused havoc there on Thursday night.

The City of Mandurah released a statement on Friday saying "severe vandalism" had been caused at the Mandurah Waste Management Centre overnight, impacting its ability to accept general waste.

General recyclables such as cardboard, tyres, scrap metal and mattresses are still being accepted at the site, as is green and hazardous waste.

Regular household bin collections will continue to operate as normal.

Verge collections for green waste in the City of Mandurah start this Monday, September 28 and will be unaffected.

"The City is working as fast as it can to address the damage caused and will update the community again next week," the statement read.
