Letters to the Editor: 17 September 2020

I pose a question for the 20,000 people who signed Andrew Hastie's petition that called for the protection and defence of Australia's "sovereignty".

Are you prepared to volunteer to fight the Chinese or would you be comfortable seeing your son, daughter, father, mother or spouse being called upon to fight a country of 1.5 billion people who are heavily armed with huge amounts of sophisticated weaponry?

This government has turned our once biggest customer for Australian produce into a dangerous enemy by siding with the war-hungry USA and its inept leader, Donald Trump.

Amazing the foresight of some people. Forget the big pineapple, the big prawn and the big banana, check out the sculpture on the Mandjoogoordap Drive exit into Mandurah. The Big COVID Virus.

With the duck season underway please motorists take care when driving near ponds, lakes and other waterways. I live opposite a lake and this week I have had to bury three wood ducks, the ones with grey bodies and dark brown heads. They were all killed crossing the road from the lake. The one I buried this morning had his mate killed only two days before and because they mate for life he was grieving for her. He kept going back to the edge of the road where I had removed her body and this morning he was lying dead on the grass next to the roadside. So sad.

The ugly scenes of confrontations between police and protesters at the Queen Victoria Markets on the weekend were bad enough. But right in the middle of the shouting mob were a team of police horses. Horses shouldn't fight our battles for us.
