Garry Irvine, who has been selflessly serving his community for the past 50 years through the Lions Club International, was recently acknowledged with the 50-Year Membership Medal.
This is a significant achievement, made even more so by his many and varied roles during this period.
Mr Irvine joined the Lions Club of Dannevirke in New Zealand in May 1970 and in 1970/71 took on the role of treasurer before moving to the Lions Club of Scarborough in Western Australia.
In 1974/75 having relocated to Armadale/Kelmscott Club, he became president of that club.
During this period, he became active in District 201 W2 serving as deputy district governor in 1977/78 and was elected as district governor in 1978/79.
Following the establishment of the Lions Help To Hear Foundation, he served as chairman from 1981 to 1983.
In 1981 he transferred to the Lions Club of Bull Creek.
Garry was instrumental in establishing the Lions Cancer Institute and has been a member of that board for some 30 years, including several terms as chairman.
In 1996 he stood for a position as director on the International Board.
Over the years he has held many other roles at club, district and national level and has received many awards in recognition of his contribution to Lions.
A Lions spokeswoman said Mr Irvine had truly been an exemplary Lion.
"Through his contribution, he has made this world just a little bit better place for us all," she said.
