A win over the top-four Western Roar proved the highlight of the Peel Lightning's weekend, as they split their results 1-1 over a double-header of action.
The victory against the Roar on Friday night was an impressive one, as the Lightning went toe-to-toe with one of the league's better sides and came out on top.
Peel had the upper hand early in the clash, outscoring the Roar 10-9 in the opening quarter.
But it was the second where they were able to create some distance on scoreboard, as they broke away to claim a healthy five-point buffer at the main break.
Looking to keep their defensive intensity up in the third, Peel had success again keeping the Roar to just nine goals for the quarter while scoring 10 themselves to lead by six heading into the fourth.
The close contest continued there, with the Roar pegging back just one goal on the deficit by the end of the night at Peel capped it with a 44-39 victory.
Katie Swetman was productive in the scoring column with 33 goals from 44 attempts on the night.
The victory is a big step forward for the Lightning, and plays a big role in keeping them in touch with the top four.
Unfortunately for the Lightning they weren't able to back their performance up on Sunday, as they went down to Curtin-Hamersley Comets 57-64.
Peel put in an admirable performance in the loss, but the Comets remained composed to take the win.
Peel is back in action against the Rangers at Gold Netball Centre this Sunday.
