Racing was competitive in the first regatta of WA's newest radio sailing club, which operates from Austin Lakes in South Yunderup.
The interclub regatta on Sunday attracted entries from all around Perth (even an Albany club).
Overall winner of the day was Lloyd Coles from Perth Radio Sailing followed closely by Andrew Donkin and Ray Bassett of Austin Lakes.
Conditions at Austin Lakes, which is part of the Woolfdene development, were excellent and the weather produced a gentle breeze and sunshine on the day.
"It was enjoyed by all and proved there are some excellent radio sailors are in our state," club secretary Dave Woodcock said.
"Racing was competitive producing some close finishes which is always good fun for all concerned."
Austin Lakes Radio Sailing started with a couple of 'not so local' enthusiasts making use of the first-class lake built as part of the Austin Lakes development at South Yunderup.
A couple of locals got involved and a small group developed until in March this year a club was formed.
It started with seven members but has grown to 14 in just four months with regular sailing on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons starting at 1pm.
The club sails "Dragon Force 65" yachts which are proving to be popular worldwide due to everyone having the same model yacht and the low-cost start-up.
Anyone interested in trying this fun sport can drop by Inlet Boulevard, Austin Lakes on a Wednesday or Saturday afternoon to give it a try with a club boat or email austinlakesradiosailing@gmail.com for more information.
