Peel Health Campus (PHC), which is part of Ramsay Health Care, has launched a new locally-hosted program to provide professional education opportunities to GPs in the region.
Through the program, specialists and experts from PHC use a videoconferencing platform to deliver effective, efficient education to build collaboration between GPs and the hospital.
The first session was on Monday, July 13 and was attended virtually by 37 GPs who spoke with consultant cardiologist Dr Ashok Shah, an internationally trained clinician who provides both public and private care at PHC and is an expert in cardiac arrhythmias.
Peel Health Campus chief executive officer Andrew Tome said collaboration between the hospital and health care providers including GPs, aged care providers and paramedics had proved critical during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was important to continue closely working together to provide seamless patient care.
"Our goal is to make sure whenever possible, patients can receive care close to home and a big part of that is working with GPs," he said.
"During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in WA, the way we deliver health care changed rapidly - It highlighted the importance of the relationships between health practitioners in Peel."

GPs who participate in the training receive Continuing Professional Development points, which supports membership of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Last year, Peel Health Campus also opened its' Advanced Life Support training program to GPs and practice nurses, which is certified by the Australian Resuscitation Council.
