South Mandurah rocketed to an early lead on the ladder as they trounced Halls Head in the Dudley Tuckey Cup opener on Saturday.
Excellence from Blair Della Franca and former Lightning star Kyren Gavin, paired with a stout defence that didn't allow a goal in the second half, saw the Falcons shoot out of the gates to claim a 5.8 (38) to 19.12 (126) victory.
A tussle in the game's opening minutes left both sides scrapping for opportunity, but Brody Wemm broke through for the first goal to have South Mandurah off to a hot start.
Gavin soon slotted his first of three majors against his former team to push the Falcons to a three-goal buffer, and by quarter time they already had a 27-point lead.
But through the hard work of Tom Norris and Bailey Hall, Halls Head was able to conjure a response in the second.
In am impressive turnaround they booted four goals to the Falcons' two in the quarter, cutting the margin to just 14 points at half time.
Their joy didn't last long, though, as South Mandurah returned to the field with plenty of purpose.
The Falcons didn't give their next-door neighbours an inch, with Cody Nelson, Gavin and former Waroona gun Zac Moody all booting a pair of goals in the second half to break the game wide open.
Nelson would finish with a game-high four majors, as he spearheaded a forward line that made the most of their opportunities.
Ultimately South Mandurah stacked on 12 goals to zip in the final two terms, dishing up a 92-point defeat to a young Halls Head side that will look to improve week to week.
The victory sends the Falcons flying to the top of the ladder after round one of the Dudley Tuckey Cup.
They will need to continue with that same form to come away with another win in round two, as they face a Rockingham outfit coming off their own rampant win over Baldivis.
The top-of-the-table clash kicks off at Falcon Oval on Saturday, 2.30pm.
