"We are built in nature - a meeting place surrounded by unique waterways, where the wellbeing of our people and our environment are nurtured; where business in the community can thrive and entrepreneurship is celebrated.
"We will be the place where a thriving regional city and the heart of a village meet.
"This is our Mandjoogoordap."
This is the new vision for Mandurah, outlined in the Mandurah Matters 2020-2040 Strategic Community Plan.
The 20-year strategy was officially launched by the City of Mandurah last week, after almost two years of community consultation.
The milestone plan, which got underway in 2018, is the City's biggest community engagement project to date and has been shaped with the help of more than 2000 locals.
It identified what is important to the people of Mandurah and set out the resulting plan with a vision and list of actions to achieve shared goals over the next two decades.
On July 3, the City hosted its first event since the outbreak of coronavirus to unveil the the roadmap to transform Mandurah's future.
Councillors, state and federal politicians and local community members were invited to help celebrate the bold new vision.
Key speakers addressed the four main focus areas of the plan - economic, social wellbeing, health and environment - as well as what the City and partners are doing to use those priorities to form the basis of all future decisions.
Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams said it was time to bring the plan, which was "shaped by the community, for the community", to life.
"[This plan] clarifies what's important to us as citizens of Mandurah, and paves an ambitious pathway for the journey ahead," he said.
"What is clear from our Mandurah Matters conversations is that Mandurah is packed with experienced, motivated and passionate citizens.
"Now, as we look to the future, it will take all of us working together if we're going to achieve this ambitious vision for our city."
Mr Williams added that the vision was particularly important as the City starts to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Now is the perfect time to focus on our economic plans and using the Transform Mandurah project to launch our bold vision for the future," he said.
"[We're] now heavily focusing on our big-picture efforts to transform our city and bring growth, development and more economic diversity to our beautiful city.
"I now call on everyone, from local community to all levels of government, to get behind this plan and join us in working together to achieve our united vision for Mandurah."
