Peel footy is back: PFNL to hold one-off Dudley Tuckey Cup competition

The one-off competition will act as a replacement for the league's usual premier division season, which was officially called off earlier this week.

Reserves and colts competitions will also be played out under the Dudley Tuckey Cup name, with Baldivis, Rockingham, South Mandurah, Centrals and Halls Head nominating teams.

The competition will be played across 13 weeks, with 10 regular season rounds preceding a three-week finals campaign, culminating in a grand final on September 26.

In a nutshell, teams will play each other twice, with each side sitting out two bye weeks through the campaign.

"It's exciting just to see players returning to the field," PFNL general manager Geoff Hiller said.

"Obviously this is going to be very different to a regular season for us, but it's the best we can hope for and really we're just happy there will be footy on the ovals this year."

Key PFNL clubs Pinjarra, Mandurah and Waroona have opted not to enter teams into the new competition, instead putting their focus toward a return to premier division football in 2021.

"We left the choice with clubs as to whether they participate or not, and we completely understand any club not wishing to play footy this season," Hiller said.

"Those three clubs remain crucial to the Peel Football and Netball League."

Fixtures for the Dudley Tuckey Cup are expected be released in the coming days.
