A Mandurah woman has been handed a suspended prison sentence after a string of trespassing and stealing offences committed while she was subject to an intensive supervision order.
Rikki Anne Joyce appeared in the Mandurah Magistrates Court via video link from Melaleuca Women's Prison on June 12.
Police prosecutor Tamara Read told the court Joyce had been issued an intensive supervision order on December 10, 2019 for two burglary and commit offences and one burglary with intent offence.
Senior Constable Read said, despite being subjected to the order, Joyce had recently committed four stealing offences, two trespassing offences and had been in possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property.
Senior Constable Read said the offending started on January 13, 2020 when Joyce broke into a home in Greenfields and stole a Samsung Galaxy tablet and Oppo mobile phone worth $420.
Senior Constable Read added that just weeks later, on January 27, Joyce stole four sheepskin rugs from the Mandurah Forum valued at $360.
Further, Senior Constable Read told the court Joyce had trespassed on a Mandurah property twice at some time between February 6 and 7 and again on February 21.
On the second occasion, the court heard the victim of the trespassing had found Joyce sleeping in one of the beds inside the house when he returned home.
The court also heard on March 16, Joyce stole $150 worth of groceries and toiletries from Woolworths in Greenfields as well as two bottles of perfume from Greg's Discount Chemist valued at $20.
Joyce's lawyer Chris Raphael told the court his client, who had been in custody for three weeks, had a "systemic problem".
"I don't think incarceration will help," Mr Raphael said.
"My client knows there are no other chances."
Mandurah Magistrate Lynette Dias said Joyce had a history of "intense offending" and "dishonesty".
"[The order] hasn't had any impact on you at all," she said.
"You've been given options.
"You have some treatment needs - it is not your right... to take these things."
Joyce was sentenced to seven months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, for the home burglary and three months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, for possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property, to be served concurrently.
She was fined a total of $600 for the three counts of breaching a community order and $2000 for six counts of both trespassing and stealing.
Joyce was also ordered to return the stolen bank card, pay back more than $800 for stolen goods that weren't able to be recovered and more than $300 in court costs.
"If you commit another offence... in all likelihood the term of imprisonment will be activated," Ms Dias said.
