Many Mandurah businesses will be sporting all the colours of the rainbow next week as Pride in Peel celebrates the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
Sunday, May 17 will mark 30 years since the World Health Organisation officially removed homosexuality as a form of mental illness, with the Peel region's local LGBTIQ community set to use the occasion to raise awareness for the work still needed.
Across next week a collection of local businesses will be displaying the rainbow pride flag in their shop fronts, while the Mandurah bridge will also take on the vibrancy.
Pride in Peel will be holding a string of events to mark the week, of course keeping in mind the social distancing protocol.
Those kick off with a 20-person cruise and dinner on Tuesday, May 19, followed by a Facebook live stream hosted by local drag queen Fay Rocious, who will be sharing makeup tips and performing live.
A virtual bingo night will see loads of prizes up for grabs, while Pride in Peel will also provide 10 free suicide prevention courses to shine a light on the mental health issues facing their community.
Pride in Peel founder Stephen Carter said it was an exciting time ahead.
"We are beyond excited for the events we have lined up for IDAHOBIT week," he said.
"It's a week to embrace diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics.
"If you are unable to take part in any of the events or activities, you can do your bit by simply wearing a splash of rainbow for the day.
"You can also support local businesses who display rainbow flags or stickers too."
The celebrations have been made possible thanks to funding from Neami National's Suicide Prevention Program, along with support from the City of Mandurah, Alcoa, Proud Marketing and APM/NDIS.
