Have you been confused about whether you're eligible for COVID-19 assistance? You're not the only one.
According to a recent survey by the Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), 30 per cent of local businesses did not understand the federal government stimulus packages, or if they were eligible for assistance.
PCCI president Donna Cocking cited timing issues, information overload and miscommunication as the reasons behind businesses' confusion.
"Many operators feel overwhelmed by information overload," she said.
"We are not used to government policy moving so fast but in these times it is necessary."
Although necessary, information on JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments being constantly updated further confused Peel businesses with many having difficulties navigating the application process.
"Timing was a big issue as matters were being discussed or relayed without appropriate paperwork in tax portals to refer to for clarification," Ms Cocking said.
"Especially in the early stages, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) communication was delayed or not concise.
"Portability between JobSeeker and JobKeeper was also not clear."

This confusion has been echoed across the state with 50 per cent of WA businesses surveyed not understanding the federal government stimulus packages, or if they were eligible for assistance.
"Our business needs clarity around the specifics of government assistance packages," one PCCI survey respondent said.
PCCI general manager Andrew McKerrell said this uncertainty was concerning as the assistance packages are critical in keeping many businesses open during COVID-19 restrictions.
"I did note through the survey that there was a lot of confusion specifically in regards to the JobKeeper program," he said.
"I see this as a vitally important program for people to take part of if they're eligible."
For businesses unsure of their eligibility for assistance packages the recommendation is to seek advice from financial professionals.
"The best source of information I've found to get your head around this information has come from talking to your accountant or bookkeeper," Mr McKerrell said.
"The government websites simply can't explain everybody's individual circumstance, which is why it is so important for a business to be talking to their financial professionals."
The PCCI is also running regular Enewsletter updates with key reminders about deadline dates and remind businesses that the "ATO website is a great source of information".
