Mandurah band The Gusset will officially release their latest track, Never Let Me Know, on Friday, April 3, capping off a bittersweet past month for the local legends.
Shortly after announcing a West Australian tour in which they would showcase the new tune, the boys were forced to cancel all of their upcoming gigs among the fallout of the coronavirus crisis, including shows in Margaret River, Bunbury, Fremantle and Perth.
But always of the view that the glass is half full, the band admirably opted to look on the brighter side.
"While we are shattered from losing a lot in the last couple of weeks we understand there's other people and businesses that are in a lot more stressful positions," a statement from the band read.
"The fact that we can still release this track even without a tour is still a huge positive for us and has pushed us to keep going.
"On the other side of this we look forward to supporting those venues and small businesses as much as we can and are already hanging out to do some live shows as soon as possible."
The making of the new single itself included a writing process of between three and four months, which kicked off after the release of their previous track, Something Good.
"We felt the track formed a nostalgic vibe, with that in mind we built it from there in terms of tones and effects,"
The idea for the song's concept came up during a jam over a set of chords lead guitarist Ryan O'Loughlin had been working on for a while.
It became an instant hit among the boys, who then threw together a few ideas which soon became the intro and verses.
Now, ready for release, the song recreates the surf-rock sound The Gusset is known for while also adding hints of other genres.
