Mandurah's Riptide Youth Performance Company is gearing up to present their fourth consecutive FRINGE WORLD production.
The ensemble, made up of 15 to 25 year olds from the Peel region, will be delivering a week of performances in FRINGE's brand-new inner-city hub at the Girls School.
The show, Homebrand, is a new contemporary performance piece devised, designed, directed and performed entirely by our emerging Mandurah-based ensemble of theatre-makers.
The group said the new work was a creative presentation of fact and fiction that drawed on the ensemble's experiences with their 'biological connections'.
The show takes place in the safety of your own living room, where you can be anyone you want to be.
Within that room, what seems to be small events occur, that ultimately shape who you will become.
It's the coldness that you feel the first time you tell your mum 'she doesn't understand'.
It's that first time you see dad cry, have a fight, the cuddles on the sofa, the pile of shoes by the front door.
Homebrand endeavours to continue Riptide's mission to grow and empower young people from the Peel region through the performing arts.
Riptide has engaged Chris Isaacs of The Last Great Hunt to support the writing and devising process for Homebrand.
Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman said FRINGE WORLD was a significant cultural highlight in Western Australia's summer calendar.
"The State Government is proud to support the Festival with a Lotterywest grant, that will assist in promoting local artists, and continue to provide unique arts and cultural experiences for the whole community," he said.
"Last year more than 3500 artists performed at FRINGE WORLD Festival, 74 per cent of which were local Western Australian artists - this just goes to show the depth of talent in WA.
"I encourage all Western Australians to support local artists at FRINGE WORLD Festival this summer."
Homebrand will be showing at The Library at Girls School from January 27 to February 2 from 6.15pm.
Tickets are $20 from fringeworld.com.au.
