A pair of up-and-coming Mandurah surfers made their mark with podium finishes at the 2020 Taj's Small Fries event in Yallingup over the weekend.
Young guns Luxe Higgins and Mia Jacobs showcased their skills on their way to finishing third and fourth in the 12 and under girls category respectively.
The local duo were excellent in the water, falling just short of the top two in their division, which was eventually taken out by Margaret River's Olive Hardy (with a score of 14.50) and City Beach's Indie Siedmiogrodzki (8.00).
Higgins notched a total of 7.40 to take out the bronze spot, while Jacobs took fourth with 5.55.
A string of ex-Mandurah locals also made an impact at the event.
Former Dawesville turned Cowaramup surfer Macklin Flynn won the 16 and under boys category, while his brother Ace claimed victory in the 10 and under boys.
Meanwhile Maverick Wilson, formerly of Wannanup and now based in Dunsborough, won the 12 and under boys.
Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks was ecstatic with the continued success of Taj's Small Fries competition.
"To see all these smiling faces and stoked groms is exactly why we hold events like this," he said.
"I'd like to thank Taj for his hard work behind the scenes and I couldn't think of a better way to kick off the new competition year with an event such as this."
