Participants of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre's Man V Fat Soccer weight loss program have reaped the rewards, dropping a collective 200 kilograms.
The 15-week program is a University of Western Australia Sport initiative that was brought to WA after great success in the UK.
Mandurah was one of three locations in which the program was run, and the competition kicked off in August 2019.
The program is in line with the City of Mandurah's public health plan, and encourages men to get involved in a healthy community activity with likeminded people.
The season included a weekly weigh-in, discussions around activities and nutritional meal plans with the resident league coach, and a fun game of indoor soccer/futsal on the MARC courts.
As part of the MARC program, two young recreation centre staff were also upskilled, learning coaching and referee skills for the competition.
The MARC's first program attracted 53 participants (six teams), and organisers are looking forward to a successful second season which will kick off on February 3.
Registrations for season two (with discounted rates) are now open.
