The City of Mandurah have been recognised with an impressive award win for their hosting of the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games (APES).
The 2018 APES Games received the Major Event Award for Excellence at the Parks and Leisure Australian National Conference on October 29.
The APES Games are held for all serving, retired and volunteer law enforcement and emergency services personnel across Australasia.
The 17th annual event, held in October and November last year, saw a record 3341 participants from six countries compete and volunteer in Mandurah.
They took part in more than 50 different sports over seven days, including water polo, the fire truck pull and downwind ocean surf ski race.
It was the largest multi-sport event to take place in WA in the last decade and the economic impact across the state exceeded $6 million.
It was the second win for the City of Mandurah for the event, after taking out first place for the West Australian Major Event of the Year, in partnership with WA Police, at the Parks and Leisure Australia Regional Awards in June.

Competitors and supporters from Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Hong Kong, Singapore and China took part in more than 2000 competitions across 28 venues throughout the week as well as a range of social and tourism opportunities.
Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams said it would not have been possible without the partnership between the City of Mandurah, WA Police and the efforts of the project working group.
"I'm incredibly proud of the worthy recognition that the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games received," he said.
"We have a long history of hosting outstanding events in the City and the 2018 APES Games is a shining example that Mandurah is ready to be a leader in hosting national and international events.
"As well as being a great event, hosting these Games has lifted our aspirations as a notable Australian regional city and this will be its lasting legacy."
