Mandurah Mail sports reporter Justin Rake has been named as Western Australia's top country football journalist, claiming a prestigious state award last week.
The 2019 WA Football Media Awards were held at Optus Stadium on November 19, with winners named across various media categories including print, television and radio.
Rake took out the WA Country Football League Media Award for his coverage of the 2019 Peel Football and Netball League and he was given high praise on the night.
"Justin's coverage of football in the Peel region was of an extremely high quality," the judges' comments read.
"His reporting, analysis, news breaking and photography received praise from local clubs, coaches, presidents and officials on a frequent basis."
Mandurah Mail editor Gareth McKnight said Rake's commitment to covering the PFNL in both print and digital had been excellent in 2019.
"Justin is an important part of the Mandurah Mail team and his coverage of the PFNL is a major driver of engagement and positive feedback from the wider Peel community," he said.
"Justin's commitment to in-depth coverage has been recognised at a state level and is a fitting reward for his hard work over the last 12 months."
