A Mandurah methamphetamine addict has been jailed for choking his partner, 10 minutes after he was served with a violence restraining order by police.
Shaun Vincent Blogna, 36, was held in custody as he appeared in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after pleading guilty earlier this year to 12 charges, including reckless driving and common assault.
Police prosecutor Houghton told the court Blogna committed the offences between March 12, 2019 and September 6, 2019.
Blogna breached four violence restraining orders requested by his partner, with the most serious breach taking place on September 6, 2019.
Ms Houghton said Blogna was issued with a restraining order by Mandurah Police at 12.45pm.
Ten minutes later, Blogna forced entry to a Mandurah house, despite seeing the victim's car in the driveway.
Blogna became verbally abusive towards the victim in front of his mother, who was also at the house.
Ms Houghton said Blogna threw the victim against the front fence and "squeezed" her throat, before she escaped the house with his mother.
Blogna breached three restraining orders earlier this year, including an incident on July 19 when the victim returned home to find him standing in her garage, before he fled with her phone and keys.
Magistrate Anne Longden told the court Blogna put the community and himself at risk in March after he failed to stop at two stop signs, narrowly missing a police car, while he was intoxicated.
She said Blogna was driving on a suspended licence, to be reinstated in July 2021, which he lost after driving with alcohol in his system.
Ms Houghton said Blogna was driving a blue Holden Commodore along George Street at an estimated speed of 80-90 kilometres per hour, before failing to stop at a stop sign at the Cooper Street intersection at 5.40pm, on March 3.
She said Blogna would have collided with the police car if it had have been 30 metres further down the road.
Ms Houghton said Blogna told officers he "did it on purpose" after fleeing the police vehicle by driving down nearby roads at high-speed and tailgating a car.
She said Blogna was driving with a .096 grams blood alcohol level.
Blogna's lawyer Mark Andrews said his client had been using methamphetamine since he was 14-years-old.
After being released from prison in August 2018, Mr Andrews said Blogna was drug-free for several months, before relapsing in March this year.
He said the relapse prompted his re-offending and landed him back in custody.
Mr Andrews said Blogna had "an epiphany" in jail and wanted to get his life back on track for good.
"He doesn't want to see his (14-year-old) son go down the same path he did," Mr Andrews said.
"He simply needs to grow up."
Ms Longden accepted Blogna's offending was associated with his drug addiction, but issued a warning to Blogna.
"If you don't sort yourself out now, then when?" she asked.
"You have a long history of defying and ignoring restraining orders and court orders."
Ms Longden said a "chilling factor" of Blogna's offending was choking the victim, which she said was "a serious predictor of future lethal violence" and increased the likelihood of a victim being murdered.
Blogna was sentenced to 14 months in prison, to serve at least seven, before being eligible for parole.
He was fined $1500.
