The Salvation Army is gearing up for the busy holiday season and encouraging Mandurah residents to connect with each other and their community this Christmas.
Christmas is one of the hardest times of the year for Australians doing it tough, with large numbers living in poverty and struggling to afford the basics.
Mandurah Salvation Army captain Scott Ellery said many would also spend the festive season alone.
"At Christmas, the Salvos will serve more than 100,000 meals, distribute more than 500,000 gifts and toys and support more than 70,000 families in need," he said.
"But we can only do this with the support of the Australian public."
The Mandurah Salvation Army will run its annual Christmas Cheer operation to provide toys and food for those in need, with donations welcome at the Mandurah Salvation Army location or under the Kmart Wishing Tree.
They will also host a special Christmas Day service at 9.30am at 45 Lakes Road in Greenfields and a community carols service at the Mandurah Foreshore from 5.30pm on December 25 with all welcome to attend both events.
Captain Ellery said people requiring assistance with food and gifts at Christmas should get in touch.
"Whether you are by yourself, or with friends and family, Christmas is a time that is best spent together so join us, so we can share the true spirit of Christmas," he said.
