The Murray Bushrangers have named a talented squad of 71 girls to compete for spots at under-18 and under-16 level for the 2020 season.
Some 180 players from across the North-East/Border, Goulburn Murray and Southern NSW regions were nominated by their coaches, 100 of which participated in AFLW fitness testing components and skills sessions in Wangaratta last week.
Murray Bushrangers female talent coordinator Briana Cossar was delighted with the response.
"It's fantastic to see so many talented young female footballers emerging within our regions due to the continued growth of female AFL football," Cossar said.
"We are extremely fortunate to have such quality people part of our program who volunteer their time and are all passionate and committed to the development of footballers participating in our elite program.
"The satisfaction we all get from watching young athletes develop, not only as footballers, but more importantly as individuals within our community is enormous and we're really excited with the exceptional talent of our 2020 group."
Among the region's players of interest for the pre-season are basketballer turned footballer Olivia Barber (Lavington) and Alpine Lions' Sophia McCarthy.
The pre-season squad of 71 players will train twice a week at Wangaratta's Cathedral College.
