NSW MPs have passed an amendment to an abortion bill requiring doctors to provide information on pregnancy terminations to the state's health secretary.
Several amendments remain on the table for upper house MPs to to consider as debate on the private member's bill to decriminalise abortion continues into another week.
On Tuesday, the upper house agreed to an amendment moved by Nationals MP Niall Blair which would require a medical practitioner who performs an abortion to provide information to the secretary of the Ministry of Health within 28 days.
"The amendment provides an express exclusion of any identifying information about the woman who received the termination," Mr Blair said.
"The amendment addresses concerns around the adequacy of information currently being collected on terminations while balancing the need to protect the privacy of women who undergo a procedure."
Other amendments previously passed by the upper house include one clarifying that doctors must provide appropriate care to babies born alive after a termination.
Another states that the NSW parliament opposes sex-selective abortions, and a future parliamentary report on the issue is to include prevention recommendations.
