Former Mandurah actress Elizabeth Elliott is hard at work rehearsing for her latest role in an upcoming wedding - on stage, that is.
Starring in Secret Bridesmaids' Business this October, the Frederick Irwin Anglican School graduate plays bride Meg Bacon.
Written by Elizabeth Coleman and directed by Michelle Ezzy, the popular comedy hinges on a lie that could change everything and whether the bridesmaids should reveal a secret about the groom.
Elliott said it had been a rewarding challenge to play her character.
"Meg is a warm, bubbly person who needs to find inner strength when the man she loves has an affair and lies to her about it," she said.
"She struggles with her own insecurity and the anger she feels about being lied to - even Meg doesn't know how she will react.
"The character has to go from volcanically angry to broken to iron-willed, and back again, without seeming like she has split personalities."
Growing up as a theatre kid, Elliott has worked extensively backstage as well as in the spotlight with some of her favourite roles including the narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Katisha in The Mikado.
"Secret Bridesmaids' Business appealed because I loved the number of strong, independent female characters in the play," Elizabeth said.
"I wanted to play all of them and actually auditioned for most of the roles.
"I do love Meg but each character has her own wonderful personality that would be so fun to do."
Director Michelle Ezzy said she was was particularly interested in a female-led show with complex characters.
"Secret Bridesmaids' Business jumped out as being the perfect production and the end of the show really sealed the deal because I laughed out loud when I read the script," she said
"With Secret Bridesmaids' Business I wanted to do something quite different than I had done before.
"Previously, I've only directed large cast youth musicals, so a straight play with a cast of six adults is quite a change."
Secret Bridesmaids' Business will play at the Roleystone Theatre at 7.30pm on October 11, 12, 18 and 19 with a 2pm matinee October 13.
