A Mandurah man who committed two armed robberies while under the influence of drugs has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Jonah Jason Tawhiri, 21, appeared at the Perth District Court on September 2 and pleaded guilty to four robbery and armed robbery charges.
The court heard Tawhiri told police he committed the crimes during a two-and-a-half week period where he had not slept due to the heavy use of methamphetamine.
Judge Fiona Vernon said Tawhiri committed four offences between February 18 and March 7.
On February 18, he entered IGA Silver Sands and took three chocolate bars, refused to pay for them and threatened the store manager when confronted.
On February 27 at about 9.36pm, Tawhiri entered Domino's Pizza in Mandurah with a long object wrapped in a piece of clothing.
He pulled it close to his shoulder, mimicked it was a longbarrelled firearm and demanded cash, but left empty handed.
On March 5 at about 3.30pm, Tawhiri stole two vacuum cleaners from the Good Guys in Greenfields, using a knife to deter staff members.
He later exchanged the vacuum cleaners for $500 worth of methamphetamine.
On March 7 at about 12.14pm, Tawhiri entered 7-Eleven service station on Pinjarra Road in Mandurah and threatened a staff member with a knife.
He left with $350 in cash.
Judge Vernon said a term of imprisonment was the only appropriate course of action.
"It is inevitable that you will reoffend in the same way again and you represent a continuing danger to the community," she said.
She sentenced Tawhiri to four years in prison, backdated to March 7 and made him eligible for parole.
