Callum Black bagged a season-high four goals as the Baldivis Brumbies picked up an important win over the Mandurah Mustangs at Rushton Park on Sunday afternoon.
Baldivis got the jump on the Mustangs early before the home side hit back in what proved a competitive first half, but the top-two Brumbies broke away in the third term and never looked back as they claimed an 8.9 (57) to 14.12 (96) victory.
Skipper Emmanuel Collard had the visitors on the board when he jailed the day's first goal, and Baldivis was out to a swift three-goal lead when Brendan Tingey bagged back-to-back majors.
But Alex Cohen and Kobe Farmer conjured a response for the Mustangs, with Stuart Puls snaring a goal in his 150th game to give the hosts the lead.
The advantage was short-lived, however, with Black snaring his first and Johnson following suit to restore Baldivis to an 11-point lead at quarter time.
Each side booted just the one goal in the second term, with 14 points separating them at half time.
But Baldivis stepped up coming out of the long break, booting five goals to Mandurah's two to break the game open.
Black booted a pair of goals at the back end of the quarter, while Ben Higgs, Collard and Johnson all chimed in as Sam Eccles and Lachlan Mitchell worked hard around the ground.
Their efforts buoyed the Brumbies to a 35-point lead at the final change, which they extended again in the fourth to round the game out 39-point winners.
Collard and Higgs both finished with three goals for the day, one behind Black who led the game with four.
Nathan Gray and Dylan Mulcahy were among the best for Mandurah.
The win keeps Baldivis' momentum rolling ahead of another crucial clash with the in-form Centrals.
Meanwhile Mandurah squares off with Halls Head at Rushton Park.
